Leaving Burgos was much more pleasant than entering. We walked along a river, past the university, and into the country. This day was perfect. No rain. Sunshine. 70 degrees. Nice breeze.
With the rain long gone, the rain gear was stowed. Long underwear was put away. Cap and scarf put way. Jacket rolled up. Long sleeved shirt off. Tee shirt weather. Floppy sun hats out and sun screen on. It was really nice to be walking without much on, but that meant the gear had to be carried.
We had a pleasant day covering about 17 mi, stopping in Hontanas for the night. It is a great little town, with about 4 hostels and bars all together. Lots of competition, lots of people, lots of fun.
Our place offered laundry service. It was the best 7 euros we ever spent. We put all our clothes (I wore rain pants to dinner) in a basket and 3 hrs later had them all back smelling like spring breeze.
Our place cost 6 euros (the night before in Burgos our place as also 6 euros).
We had dinner with Alexandra, a young woman from Moscow; and with Kim, a young man from Soeul, Souh Korea. They had both recently quit their jobs son decided to do the Camino. That seems to be a theme. The day prior we spoke with a young Australian woman Her company paid for her Master’s degree and the laid her off, so she decided to do the Camino. Prior to that we talked with a young woman from Holland. She finished her degree in biomedical engineering and started on her masters. She hated it, so she decided to volunteer at a hostel. Her parents said it was ok if only for a year. Her grandfather quit talking to her.
